Ripple President Monica Long recently highlighted a potential new use case for XRP that might broaden its function within payment services. Speaking at XRP Seoul 2026, Long touched upon Ripple’s ongoing initiatives regarding payment credit, the XRP Ledger, and the Lending Protocol.
Cryptocurrency analyst X Finance Bull drew attention to these statements in a recent post, proposing that credit could emerge as a major component of XRP’s overall utility.
These remarks arrive as Ripple looks ahead to 2027. According to Long, the XRP Ledger remains a foundational element of the firm’s roadmap, with the goal of driving a greater share of customer transaction volume directly onto the network.
Have you seen what Ripple President Monica Long just said at $XRP Seoul?
Watch this closely because the biggest $XRP story may be credit, not payments.
For years, people talked about XRP mainly as a bridge asset.

Monica Long Discusses Ripple’s Credit Pilot
During her address, Long shared that Ripple has built a comprehensive payments infrastructure, achieving a tenfold year-over-year increase in transaction volumes and adoption so far. She noted that the company intends to transition more of this activity directly to the XRP Ledger via RLUSD.
She also touched upon a decentralized exchange pilot centered around payments that Ripple has been testing, pointing out the advantages of integrating the XRP Ledger’s decentralized exchange functionality into payment flows.
Following this, Long introduced a separate focus area: credit.
She pointed out that many of Ripple’s existing payment clients—primarily payment service providers—already depend on short-term credit to support their daily operations. Because these businesses require access to capital across multiple markets and at all hours, short-term funding is deeply integrated into their daily transaction procedures.
XRP Could Help Fund Payments
Long elaborated that Ripple is collaborating with the Lending Protocol on a framework that would leverage XRP contributed to lending pools as collateral to back customer payments.
“We’re working with the lending protocol,” Long stated, “being able to use pools of XRP that are loaned into the pool to use that XRP as collateral to fund some of those payments for our customers.”
Characterizing the initiative as “payments credit meets XRP Ledger and the lending protocol,” Long expressed that the project could establish new avenues for XRP to deliver utility across both payment and credit operations for users.
X Finance Bull placed significant emphasis on this proposal. The commentator noted that payment companies frequently require liquidity prior to the settlement of incoming funds, forcing them to rely on working capital, prefunded accounts, and credit lines to complete transactions.
In the scenario outlined by Long, XRP provided by token holders or institutional entities could back lending pools. Payment clients would then be able to secure funding, utilize the liquidity for operations, and pay back the borrowed funds, thereby freeing up the capital once again.

Evernorth Adds to the Lending Narrative
Additionally, X Finance Bull referenced Evernorth’s institutional XRP strategy, which features initiatives connected to the XRPL Lending Protocol.
The commentator suggested this setup could bridge the gap between XRP holders and capital-supplying institutions on one side, and payment firms requiring short-term liquidity on the other. While Ripple’s payment clients would generate the demand for financing, the XRP Ledger and Lending Protocol would supply the underlying infrastructure for these credit operations.
Long clarified that this credit program is currently in the pilot phase, noting her intention to move the project forward past this stage by 2027.
From the perspective of X Finance Bull, this evolution could grant XRP an additional function within payment architectures. If Ripple successfully scales the lending initiative, XRP could go beyond simply facilitating value transfers and actively support payment financing.
