This Ethereum Whale Just Sold $36,340,000 In ETH At 875,000% Gain

Cryptocurrency analyst Ted (@TedPillows) recently highlighted a standout transaction in Ethereum history that yielded an 8,750x return for a single investor.

Figures from Arkham Intelligence indicate that a specific wallet address transferred 13,320 ETH to a Coinbase deposit address about 7 hours prior to the announcement, amounting to a $36.34 million valuation.

A look at the wallet’s past transactions reveals a broader trend. Half a year prior, this same address moved 15,000 ETH—worth $30.97 million—to that identical Coinbase destination. This was followed shortly by two smaller transfers of 2 ETH ($4,130) and 0.1 ETH ($205.27). Furthermore, the wallet had acquired 1.1 ETH from a Coinbase deposit a year before that.

The Scale of the Gain

The initial cost basis for this holding was $0.31 per ETH, a price point the cryptocurrency has not seen since 2015. With ETH hovering around $2,727 at the time of the latest transaction, the return translates to roughly an 8,750x multiplier. The single transaction of 13,320 ETH alone netted $36.34 million, underscoring the potential magnitude of prolonged holding strategies.

An observer pointed out that the wallet liquidated roughly 170,000 ETH at an average of $1,137, essentially clearing out a complete ICO allocation, which they described as a “full exit, 3,655x.” The initial outlay for roughly 14,300 ETH totaled about $4,150 based on the $0.31 purchase price.

How the Community Read the Trade

Market participants closely tracked the wallet’s execution strategy leading up to the liquidation. According to one account, the seller initiated a 10 ETH test transfer to the Coinbase deposit at 03:02Z, followed by the bulk transfer of 13,320 ETH at 03:08Z. In the interim, four addresses mimicking the final destination were utilized as decoys. The wallet concluded its activity with a remaining balance of 1,484 ETH.

Conviction and Timing

Reactions frequently centered on the profound patience needed to withstand numerous market cycles without liquidating. One user remarked that buying at $0.31 and maintaining the position through every market fluctuation made the investor look less like a standard whale and more like a time traveler.

Additional commentary focused on the execution window. One observer suggested that cashing out during the initial weekly close above $2,700 in nine months was the most logical move given the exceptionally low entry point and prevailing market conditions. Amid subdued social sentiment for Ethereum driven by lackluster price action, this market participant capitalized on the premier exit window available.
