What Happened to XRP When David Schwartz Last Spoke About Shorts

Analyst Bird highlights a recurring pattern linking Ripple CTO David Schwartz's jokes about shorts to potential XRP price rallies, mirroring a similar setup from January when the cryptocurrency surged.

What Happened to XRP When David Schwartz Last Spoke About Shorts

A recurring pattern surrounds Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz, and prominent analyst Bird (@Bird_XRPL) is urging traders to take notice.

The analyst juxtaposed two of Schwartz’s posts with an XRP chart, using green boxes to highlight the timing and let the data speak for itself.

Accompanying the chart was the caption, “When David Schwartz last spoke about shorts.” This drew a direct comparison to January, when Schwartz shared a similar joke just before XRP displayed positive momentum. Now, he has repeated the exact same joke.

Schwartz’s Recent Comments

Schwartz recently posted a joke on X: “My standard pickup line in college was, ‘I’m studying electrical engineering. Can I remove your shorts?’ It never worked.” By playing on the dual meaning of “shorts” in both electrical engineering and financial markets, the remark immediately sparked speculation among the XRP community regarding short positions against the cryptocurrency.

This joke originally surfaced in January, when Schwartz replied to another user with the statement, “When I was in college, my go-to pickup line was, ‘I’m studying electrical engineering, may I remove your shorts?’” Following that post, XRP experienced a steep rally, soaring past $2.40—a price point it has not touched since.

Bird’s chart features a green box highlighting that January candle alongside a second green box near the current price zone around $1.47, mirroring the setup that preceded the January surge.

XRP’s Current Position

At the time of writing, XRP is on a downward trend. The daily chart reflects a close of $1.4729, marking a 2.89% loss for the day. Despite occasional bursts of momentum, the digital asset remains well below its January peaks.

Schwartz’s remarks come during a challenging period, prompting traders to monitor whether historical patterns will repeat. Should history duplicate itself, a rebound could be significant given the distance between XRP’s current price and its 2026 peak.

The XRP Army’s Reaction

Bird’s post drew responses from multiple traders. One user remembered forecasting a strong week for XRP, only to express frustration as prices drifted lower. Conversely, another interpreted the situation optimistically, predicting a rally to $3.2 within a fortnight.

One commenter noted that short sellers were being vocal but would eventually unwind their positions, hinting at an anticipated market reversal. Meanwhile, another predicted further downward movement, highlighting a split community. While bullish traders study the January charts with interest, skeptics doubt that a joke can influence the market a second time.
