Expert Says XRP Will Jump Bitcoin. Here’s why

Franklin Templeton senior executive Sandy Kaul has openly highlighted a changing perspective among institutional investors regarding the cryptocurrency market.

During a video posted to X by well-known crypto analyst Digital Asset Investor, Kaul pointed out three sectors she believes hold massive growth potential: decentralized digital identity, agentic AI alongside micropayments, and post-quantum computing security frameworks.

Interestingly, Bitcoin was absent from all three of these categories.

As Kaul bluntly put it, “We are moving past the Bitcoin leads and Bitcoin is the predominant asset.” While she admitted that “Bitcoin is going to be an important asset always,” she emphasized that the argument for investing in alternative areas of the market has become far more compelling. “The fundamental investment case for other parts of the ecosystem has strengthened to such an extent that these are becoming really important growth opportunities,” she remarked.

What XRP Brings to the Table

For Digital Asset Investor, Kaul’s comments served as confirmation of a viewpoint he maintains he has maintained for an extended period. “There’s no way XRP doesn’t pass Bitcoin in market cap, it’s just a matter of time,” he argued.

His argument relies heavily on practical utility. Whereas Bitcoin serves mainly as a decentralized store of value featuring a capped supply of 21 million BTC, XRP functions in a distinct manner. Built to transfer value rapidly on the XRP Ledger, it completes transactions within 3 to 5 seconds while incurring minimal fees. It functions as a bridge currency, eliminating the necessity for financial providers to maintain separate pools of liquidity across every currency combination. Furthermore, the XRP Ledger accommodates tokenized assets and stablecoins via its built-in decentralized exchange.

While the Bitcoin network depends on power-hungry proof-of-work mining, the XRP Ledger utilizes a consensus protocol that entirely bypasses mining, resulting in a significantly lower energy footprint per transaction.

These match the high-growth fields highlighted by Kaul: payment rails, AI-driven micropayments, and robust security. XRP currently has ongoing development initiatives in all three areas.

Two Assets, Two Roles

Bitcoin and XRP were designed for entirely different purposes. Bitcoin relies on an appeal of monetary scarcity and decentralized control, whereas XRP focuses on transaction speed and utility within financial infrastructure. Both cryptocurrencies have the potential to thrive on their own paths.

The lingering uncertainty is whether increased utilization of XRP for practical payment solutions will translate into long-term demand for the token itself. Utility does not guarantee price growth. The future trajectory of XRP will depend heavily on its adoption as a bridge asset, a fee token, and a tool for liquidity.
