XRP has been moving within a tightening range over the past few days, with a single price level now dictating its potential direction. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez (@ali_charts) highlighted this critical threshold using an hourly chart on X, noting that a definitive breakout hinges on one specific hourly close.
Martinez Targets $1.54
According to Martinez, a symmetrical triangle is currently forming on the hourly timeframe. Emphasizing the importance of the threshold, he stated, “Now, everything comes down to $1.54.” At the time of his chart, XRP was changing hands around $1.51—roughly 2% below the watched level.
Martinez is monitoring for an hourly close above $1.54 to validate a breakout. Should this occur, he estimates the technical pattern could spark an approximate 10% upward move toward $1.70.

I’m waiting for an hourly close above $1.54 to confirm the breakout.

Reading the Chart
The descending upper trendline originates from just above $1.60—a price point reclaimed during a prior rally. Subsequent rallies on the chart have formed lower highs, with recent peaks hitting approximately $1.55 and $1.535.
Conversely, the ascending lower trendline originates near $1.40. Early troughs formed around $1.46, while subsequent lows found support higher up near $1.47 and $1.48, demonstrating that buyers are stepping in at elevated prices.
These opposing trendlines converge close to $1.50, causing the trading band to compress as convergence approaches. On the chart, the $1.54 mark is positioned just beneath the upper boundary.
The Path Martinez Sketched
To illustrate a potential trajectory, Martinez mapped a gray line onto the chart. The projected route begins with a pullback toward the lower trendline around $1.50, followed by a rebound that breaches the $1.54 horizontal resistance, accompanied by a brief retest of that zone.
The trajectory then ascends stepwise toward the upper region of the chart near $1.68. XRP last traded at this level in late August. The stated $1.70 objective sits just above this trajectory, aligning with the roughly 10% gain projected from the $1.54 breakout trigger.

Levels Traders Can Track
The $1.54 mark remains the primary focal point of this setup, as an hourly close above it satisfies Martinez’s breakout criteria. Meanwhile, the ascending lower trendline—spanning roughly $1.48 to $1.49—provides an alternative reference marker for market participants.
With the trendlines converging in early October, the timeframe for this pattern to resolve is growing narrow. Market participants keeping tabs on XRP will likely watch for hourly closes near $1.54 throughout upcoming sessions.
