XRP Ledger Hits Major Milestone On Agentic Transactions

Artificial intelligence agents are driving massive activity on the XRP Ledger, surpassing 13 million transactions across 166 merchants and accounting for a quarter of the network's total volume.

XRP Ledger Hits Major Milestone On Agentic Transactions

Artificial intelligence agents are making payments for services on the XRP Ledger at a pace that exceeds initial expectations. RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele announced on X that the XRPL has handled more than 13 million agentic transactions distributed across 166 x402 merchants. Currently, these agentic payments account for approximately 25% of the ledger’s total activity.

Earlier in the year, Akinyele forecast that the XRPL would swiftly cross the threshold of 10 million agentic transactions. The network achieved that milestone and continued to expand, leading to his updated projection that reaching 100 million transactions may happen sooner than anticipated.

Transacting Without Human Approval

Autonomous AI agents are now paying directly for data, compute power, and APIs without requiring individual human sign-offs. This type of activity demands underlying infrastructure that is reliable, cost-predictable, and fast.

The XRPL meets these requirements by offering transaction confirmation times of 3 to 5 seconds and predictable costs that eliminate gas auctions or fee estimation. The design of the ledger allows agents to function smoothly within pre-established budgets.

To speed up adoption among developers, Ripple introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit. This package features an XRPL Docs MCP Server, which grants Model Context Protocol-compatible clients like Cursor and Claude direct access to official XRPL documentation.

Additionally, developers have access to the XRPL Payment Skill and XRPL Agent Skill for Claude, which facilitate transaction tracking, payments, balance checks, and wallet creation. A practical tutorial enables developers to complete a confirmed testnet payment in less than 30 minutes.

X402 Integration Opens New Revenue Streams

By supporting the x402 payment protocol, the XRPL enables agents to use XRP or RLUSD for AI model inference and API calls immediately. With 166 active x402 merchants already participating, the commercial framework for agentic payments is fully operational and expanding.

RLUSD, which is Ripple’s native USD-backed stablecoin on the XRPL, provides agents with a stable currency option for processes that demand price stability. Agent-to-agent transactions, payroll, and invoice settlements all operate using the same underlying transaction primitives that process XRP. Furthermore, RLUSD can be traded for other assets directly through the built-in XRPL decentralized exchange without needing external bridges.

What This Means for XRP

Every single agentic transaction contributes to network activity. As this transaction volume increases, the demand for XRP to serve as a settlement asset grows correspondingly. Having operated uninterrupted since 2012 without a single transaction rollback, the ledger provides institutions with a dependable base for deploying agents backed by real capital.

As Akinyele noted, “Now is the time to build.” With an active merchant ecosystem and rising transaction volumes, early-moving developers secure access to a growing population of agents already paying for services across the network.
