According to XRP investor Terrell Williams, market participants might be underestimating XRP’s long-term prospects by placing too much emphasis on its current price movements.
In a message shared on X, Williams drew a parallel between holding XRP at present and purchasing stock in a major internet enterprise prior to mainstream technological adoption. He suggested that XRP could experience a substantial increase in value should institutional adoption pick up pace.
While recognizing that some members of the XRP community have endured prolonged phases of price consolidation, Williams pointed out that the token peaked near $3 last year prior to its decline toward the $1.50 range. Even so, he encouraged market participants to evaluate the growing financial infrastructure surrounding XRP instead of relying solely on its present market valuation.
Williams regards XRP fundamentally as a utility asset designed to facilitate cross-border transactions. He contrasted this specific utility with Bitcoin, which he defines primarily as a store of value rather than an instrument for payments and liquidity.
Williams Points to Cross-Border Payments
Williams explained that XRP is capable of powering the movement of trillions of dollars internationally while simultaneously enabling tokenized financial assets. He noted that the current global financial framework remains excessively slow and expensive for certain international transactions.
Highlighting the contrast, he noted that traditional cross-border transfers often require multiple business days alongside fees ranging from 3% to 5%, whereas transactions utilizing XRP settle in mere seconds for a fraction of a single penny. At the same time, Williams conceded that financial institutions cannot shift to this system overnight, as banks and related entities must first build out the necessary infrastructure to embrace broader blockchain integration.
Furthermore, Williams asserted that sustained, exponential price gains for XRP are unlikely until financial institutions adopt and utilize the asset on a massive scale. In his estimation, retail trading alone fails to supply the deep liquidity required to fuel the magnitude of price appreciation anticipated by long-term investors.
Institutional Adoption Remains the Key Factor
For Williams, institutional engagement serves as the primary catalyst that will dictate XRP’s trajectory moving forward. He remarked that regulatory changes involving agencies like the SEC and CFTC could pave the way for institutions to participate more actively in the crypto sector, though he cautioned that clear regulations do not guarantee immediate institutional uptake.
Williams additionally raised doubts over whether major institutions will depend entirely on stablecoins for clearing transactions. He questioned whether financial firms launching their own stablecoins would routinely rely on a single centralized stablecoin to handle trades with other major entities.

Consequently, Williams envisions a space for a utility-driven digital asset like XRP within liquidity management and global settlement workflows. Emphasizing the decade-plus history of infrastructure development backing XRP, he maintained that the market has not yet witnessed the institutional liquidity volumes he anticipates.
Williams Says Patience Will Be Important
In Williams’ view, XRP investors must learn to separate the ongoing creation of financial infrastructure from the eventual onset of widespread institutional usage. He argued that while the existing technology can readily accommodate significant liquidity streams, major price growth will likely hold off until institutions begin utilizing that liquidity heavily. Should that adoption materialize, he anticipates that the resulting demand will foster a dramatically altered market landscape for XRP.
